Windscreen whistle

Post by Gareth » Wed Jun 03, 2020 8:53 pm

Good evening all

I had the dreaded windscreen leak as a result of LR screen bonding issues.
My dealership tried to wriggle out of it but after the threat of legal action carried out a screen replacement.
The 1st attempt left a lot to be desired with loose rubbers and windscreen wipers set to the wrong height.
This resulted in a piercing whistle at higher speeds.

LR said they could not replicate the issue.
The service manager drove my car and accepted there was an issue.

They have done my screen again and made the problem worse.

I’ve contacted a dispute resolution solicitor but any help would be appreciated.

This seems to be a known fault with the Discovery 5. My March 2017 HSE began leaking round the top of the windscreen in June 2019. It went into the dealers to be tested, but they couldn’t replicate the fault. However, Landrover Jaguar authorised the screen to be taken out and resealed. It’s been fine until end of March this year, when it started ‘whistling’ at about 50mph. Pushing against the glass with my hand seemed to stop it while pressure was applied. Due to the Covid shutdown, I haven’t been able to take it back to the dealer. No problems (apart from the noise) in the fine weather, but now the rains been coming down, water has poured in, soaking the roof lining, and flowing over the cup holders and centre consol and, more worryingly, the electrics. Phoned the dealer, who now says ‘Out of warranty’, but has agreed to take a look next Monday. Although the car was 3 years old in March, the repair was done less than 12 months ago, so I’m hopeful JLR will authorise a more permanent repair.

Hi Gareth,

I am sorry to learn of your comments.

Please can you arrange to PM me your 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number, your contact number and the approved retailer that you have attended.

Once I have received this information, I would be happy to investigate this further.
