MPG

Post by Sirrah4941 » Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:50 pm

Hi all
I have a series 4 Disco and I’m looking to chop it in ( I love it so need to choose wisely).

My heart wants a RRS but paying the amount for a car that will be replaced soon doesn’t make sense.

My head tells me I should try a Velar- I don’t need a big car as a necessity and it’s smaller engine and slightly lower cost could be a winner!

Then there’s the Disco 5 which I am a fan of and I wouldn’t mind driving a car with the size ( I’m used to it so why not) but I’m worried about the MPG! I was thinking if I go for one it will be a 3ltr Diesel HSE with a few extras.

Diesel gate and MPG is a concern as the push on Diesel is making me think I need to follow my head and do a Velar!!

Any advice or thoughts would be welcome

Hi
Wouldn't worry about diesel gate and all that rubbish. Diesel will be around for many years to come and yes tax may go up, but so will petrol. The government has played the whole thing terribly, to the detriment of the motor industry, but what's new....?

On the 3l diesel you will likely get around 29 MPG with a mix of long runs and town.
about 24 to 26mpg on lots of short journeys
People say you can get 35, but that is at 65 to 70mph on a long run - in reality that is unlikely..

Over the last 1000 miles with a mix of driving distances and speeds, rarely above 85 (I mean never) I get about 29 mpg.

From reading reports, I understand that if you are doing a lot of short journeys and not many miles covered, the petrol might be better..

Hi,

With the new 306 HP V6 Diesel, I have 7.5 - 8.0 L/100km when driving on highways or cross country. When driving in the Paris suburban network, I have 8.2-9.0 L/100.
The V6 makes the disco as a real Swiss knife. I am sure the ingenium 2.0 Ltrs Diesel makes the job because the D5 is really lighter than the D4. But the V6 still the more valuable choice when you will sell it.

Hi,
I managed 32 mpg in a 2 litre over 11000 miles from new. Daily commute was circa 25 miles on moderately quick A roads.

Just ordered a V6 diesel too...

Re. the D5 2L. It really is dependent on type of driving and style of driving. My D5 2L averages around 38mpg but have had nearly 50mpg on a steady country run of around 50 miles on A roads.

I am getting 31.59 mpg (8,94 l/100km) (real MPG, calculated with an app over 6,000 miles) with my D5.
Our DS is getting 37,81 mpg (7,74 l/100km) (calculated over 30,621 miles).

So I highly doubt every mpg that is not calculated by an app (or yourself) and was measured below a few thousand miles distance.

I am on tank 3 of new 3L SDV6. Av 30mpg on first tank, which was affected by over inflated tyres (not corrected by dealer, a common problem apparently). 34mpg on 2nd tank. Currently on 37.8, which included a 120mile trip reaching 40. Have been doing a mix of motorways and local roads, some with traffic. Driving style not caning, cruising at 70.
