After Market Roof Racks

Post by Darkwolf » Sun Feb 25, 2018 1:32 am

Hello,

Does anyone have experience with after market roof racks, such as Thule, for the Disco 5?

Not sure how your search is going, but I've had a Frontrunner 'Slimline 2' on for a few months and am happy with it. Fitment and quality are both very good and it seems versatile enough for just about anything - including a rooftop tent.

I'm in the US, but I assume they're available across the pond.

Here's mine without any of the accessories.

I have just ordered the Modula Black Ovalbar roof rack.
I had a Thule a Wingbar Edge previously on my 2017 MY X3 and they were very good quality but they are 80mm deep x 27mm high, which the roof box only just gripped.
The Modula ones I hope are a slightly lower profile and they have passed the same tests as Thule and still come with a 3 year guarantee. They are also £90 instead of £259 for the Thule.

Thanks, I ended up going with the Land Rover ones, because I was in a rush. They are fine, except they only come in the brushed aluminum colour, which doesn't match my all black Discovery. :(

Deck B, how was the installation of the frontrunner and removing the caps from the roofrails? did you have to drill them out of could remove them without damaging them? I was considering the frontrunner roofrack but want to remove it now and again.

Thanks for the feedback

I have been looking very closely at the OEM and Front Runner rack the Front Runner is way ahead being half the price and fits directly onto the roof rails. The OEM, you have to remove the roof rails and then buy a kit which costs ZAR5k before you can fit the rack then the rack costs 8k more than Front runner. I am trying to make up something similar to the Expedition rack I had on my Disco 4
