lumpy running with little pull off power

our discovery 5 starts fine but put it into reverse straight away and it cuts out and sounds like its running out of diesel, for some reason forward doesn't seem to be an issue, although just lately its been getting worse, its started to run lumpy with little power at junction, once revs are built up its fine, can you help

do you have the 2l as that sounds like lose of compression on No1 cylinder. the classic symptoms of engine failure. what engine , age and mileage do you have
