Hi,

i've had one of my door lock covers fall off. Its not a particularly bit part, and not particularly very expensive (£10.70+VAT), however i've been quoted £30 to have it sprayed to the colour of my Discovery!

Talking to my local dealership, it would appear that these are a very popular part that they are getting orders for, and the dealership confirmed that it seems to be an issue with them falling off.

Would someone in the CRC please give me an indication as to how this is handled? I could really do with not paying the £40.70+VAT for this piece of plastic, if the new one will also fall off! There seems to be a design issue here and I don't see why we, as customers should pay for it...

Good morning,

Thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn of your concerns and for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

I can confirm however that I am not aware of this being a known concern with the vehicle and should the concern have appeared and is not a result of a manufacturing or material defect, the cost of rectification would be the responsibility of the vehicle owner.

Thanks,
Amellia

Hi Amellia,

I have put the door lock cover back, however it is very loose. Plus I have looked at the one on the drivers door and this is also loose. Would that not mean that these are faulty and therefore replaceable under warranty?

After all its only a matter of time and they will fall off and that surely would mean these are deemed faulty?

There appears to be a plastic lug missing from inside the cover that looks like it has been missed off during manufacture, mine came off a couple of times, luckily I found it and have now stuck it on with blue tack it’s not come off again. 😛

Good morning,

Thank you for your posts.

I can confirm that our approved retailers are able to investigate any concerns that are raised to them. Once a concern has been investigated they would then be able to advise if this is covered under the manufacturers warranty.

Thanks,
Stacie

Thanks Stacie,

I have talked to my dealership, who is escalating this to Land Rover. It would seem that there is a design defect here, I have just managed to get my drivers side cover off just by giving it a small wiggle!

The fact that this cover is not damaged, not been subject to any mishandling or been modified in any way, must really confirm that this is a defective design, especially as there are only the 3 small clips holding it on.

So even if I do indeed get confirmation from LR that these can be replaced under warranty, how many of these do you think i'll go through!? The design needs to be changed.

Anyway i'll updated the forum when I get a response

Hi all,

ok I have an update already. My dealership has confirmed that, as long as there is no physical damage to the covers, they will replace them free of charge under warranty. They are ordering in 2 new ones, which they will paint and replace the ones I have with.

A good result, however what to do if the new ones are just as bad? I guess it will come down to supergluing them on! If both batteries in both my keys fail, then i'll have to call Land Rover Assistance to get me in my car!

I went to my local dealership yesterday and they replaced my Lock covers under warranty, i'm not sure if they've changed the design, but these new ones are much tighter on the handles and don't give as much as the previous ones.

Super glue is off the table at the moment as I don't want to force these off to stick them on if they are going to stay put. At the end of the day if they fall off again, i'll get yet another set and then glue them on!

This has been an issue on the DS also. Mine were very loose. Will keep an eye on my D5 ones.
