Dilemma.....

Apologies, I know this has raised its head many times before but here I go anyway.
I currently drive a D4 2013 SDV6 3.0L.
I do around 8000 miles a year, split around 50/50 between motorway and city driving. I do very little light towing.
Heres my point:-
I am looking to order a D5 HSE for delivery on 1st March 2019.
My huge delima is which engine due to the oil dilution issues which are quite huge it appears. The TDV6 is being phased out and being replaced with the SDV6, however I am unable to gain any information due due to the newness.
The other alternative is the SD4 which has no oil issues, two years between services but doesn’t have the grunt of the 3.0L V6.
Peoples thoughts are appreciated.
Mark

There is basically no difference between a TD and a SV. It’s all to do with branding and names.

If you want to play it safe, go for the 2lt. Still a good engine without any questions that hang over the 3lt.

From what I have found out, on that mileage..even your motorway journeys seem small (ish), I would tend towards the petrol.
It's scandalous how LR get away with this, but I guess the desirability they have driven does work....
Would you consider getting a 1 year old instead? You could get a one year old with 5 to 6k Luxury for around £46k....if you did encounter a few issues as inevitably you will, it won't feel quite as bad and it's still under warranty etc...

Not what you want to hear, I suspect, but just my opinion. Save yourself £20+, have the same vehicle, just a little used, all the extras for free...

Re: Bammmy. Having just ordered a D5 HSE 2L for March delivery, I'm biased, but have driven both and the 2L is quiet and nippy enough for me. I only do 5k miles per year, so a bit less than you. Not the slightest bit interested in the petrol variants. Don't think you need a 3L unless you're into towing heavy loads.

I've just moved from a D4 SDV6 to a D5 2L and my 'subjective' observations were, at first i thought I'd made a huge mistake as there didn't seem to be the 'grunt' there but then with the vehicle being a lot lighter it does make 'good progress'. There seems to be a little more engine noise but again a subjective opinion. Now 4 weeks into ownership I know I've made the right decision as to me, similar to your driving profile I think the 3L would be overkill. As a side note, I'm pretty light on the 'go' pedal so its returning an average of between 33 and 38 mpg on mixed motoring.
