Keep us posted on what you decide. I'm interested as well.

It is a glorified cup holder that plugs into the USB under the arm rest and is a slightly neater solution.
I just keep my phone under the arm rest and have a short lightning left plugged in.

It adds no functionality over what I can do with mine.

Honestly, if you were going to drill a hole, just drill a hole in the bottom of the cupholder and use the 12v plug in the lower storage bin below the cupholders. At least you can still use it as a cupholder when the phone isn't there.

Dismantling and running the wiring is asking for trouble.

1979rover,

It's a bit more complex than that. "Just drilling a hole" means the cup holder tray will be limited in how far it can slide back, thus hindering access to the storage below.

What the D5 needs is a USB data point in front of the gear selector.

And it needs to be a media port as well if you want to have the full functionality.

You are correct. I had forgotten about that.

Just another LR quirk we need to embrace, lol.

@User1234, can you share the section of the workshop manual that LR sent you (501-12)? I'm looking to run some wiring from the USB to the center of the dash and want to make sure I remove the components properly. :)
