Response from the dealer...

The vehicle has had an early service light at 30/10/2018 @ 14856 at Land Rover Ipswich in which carried an oil and filter change.

In terms of oil changes due to oil dilution anything below 55k miles 16my to 20my free of charge, only in warranty period manufacturer.

In terms of the infotainment system nothing reported wrong with infotainment system, nothing faulted. Software updates only applied through Jaguar Land Rover if fault found.

05/02/2018 Recall for spare wheel anti carrier  / Software update on heater, chassis control module (suspension), Instrument Cluster, PCM Engine Management Update  - 189090 - REWRTITING/
03/05/2019 Software PCM update, Latest Update.

1. IS THERE A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR OIL DILUTION - The vehicle has had the latest software update, the is no update on any LR vehicle that is curing oil dilution however it is starting to help resolve some vehicles.
2. WHEN IS THE OIL DILUTION, WHEN IS SERVICE IS DUE - Next Service on the vehicle is showing 13,700, DEF Refill (AdBlue) 5716.

For me the above response still doesn't clarify if the software update has been applied to help aid the fix of oil.dilution. and why on earth do LR not update the latest software on the infotainment system??

Your dealer is trying to avoid a long download to the car which can take several hours.
Check what version you have then there is a list of known faults associated with it, you can then report one of those!
The version is in one of the menus somewhere, which dealer are you using?

It's version 2.5 apparently.
It's Doncaster Land Rover in wolverhampton.

More concerning is the lack of clarity around the oil dilution software!

You should have a screen like this in the settings.

I have decided against the vehicle.
Trying to secure deposit refund and on the hunt for a 2L SD4. I take it the 3L SD4 doesn't have the same oil dilution issue?

Below is a full version of the letter that was sent out to dealers in early 2018 advising them not to sell the Evoque, DS L550 and E-Pace diesels to people with "urban" and "rural" journey patterns. It corroborates the information provided by a dealer in October 2017 about the meaning of "architecture and hardware" in JLRP00100 (insider knowledge they obtained from JLR powertrain engineers). Hopefully this new disclosure will help more people to untangle themselves from missold D8 diesels and also provide a bit more ammunition for D5 owners who are being brushed off by dealers who are still stuck in denial mode.

D7u with single turbo V6 is clearly the one shown as amber but 2.0L can be treated like D7a (e.g. Velar) due to its exhaust architecture.

That's a very interesting read! Quite shocking that Land Rover/ Jaguar actually have to issue that and 'tailor' sales to driving styles.

I've punted for the MY18 3L Discovery HSE Lux in the end. Drove the 2L and just thought it lacked the refinement? But could be me being picky. Checked that the N222 update was on the vehicle prior to purchase and 'touch wood service intervals is showing normal so far...
